Prior to the Interview

1. Plan Ahead and do a little homework. Research the company and the position. Often this information can be found on the company's website. Have some specific positions in mind.

2.Write a resume of your previous jobs, volunteer hours, and or any other activities that you have completed. Make copies for each interview. Click on "Resme" tab above for more information on resumes.

3. Role Play – After you research on the position,  practice for the interview. You can rehearse with a friend or family member. This will help you feel more comfortable during your interview. Write down some of your presentation material so you will be prepared. You may be nervous and it is very easy to forget some important facts about yourself you want to share.

4. Bring a Notepad to take notes during the interview.

5. Dress for Interview- Clothing should be neat, clean, and presentable. Typically this means, a nice pair of pants and nice shirt. Avoid heavy makeup, revealing clothes, short skirts, visible piercing, tattoos, clingy tops, platform shoes, huge earrings, wrinkled clothing, hair in your face, No T-shirts, shorts, and sweats. Be sure to keep jewelry to a minimum and remember it may be necessary to remove nose, tounge, and other facial piercings. Hair should be groomed, neat, and clean.

6. Chewing gum is a distraction. Don’t have anything in your mouth during the interview.

7. Smoking- Do not smoke before an interview, this will cause your clothes and breathe to smell like smoke.

8. Be On Time- Plan for any traffic situations. Leave extra early. It's usually best to arrive 10-15 minutes early.

9. Go to the interview alone- If your parents drive you to the interview have, them wait in the car or come back to pick you up after the interview is finished.

Possible Interview Questions

During the Interview

1. First impressions are VERY Important. You can have the best plan but if you are not presentable and do not show you are interested, the employer will have to consider that when making a decision. Relax, and watch your body language, what you are not saying but your body is saying is very important. Shake the interviewers hand firmly when arriving and leaving.

2. Cell Phone-to be respectful of the interviewer, turn off your cell phone.

3. Eye Contact- Maintaining eye contact with your interviewer. This will show your interest and that you want the job.

4. Questions- Asking questions about the job and the company will show your desire to be part of their company or team.

Sample Questions:
i. What do you think is the most important thing I need to know about his job?
ii. What kinds of opportunities might there be for me to learn new skills here?
iii. Is there anything else you need to know about me?
iv. Will I be trained on the job by you or someone else?

5. Follow up Question - ask the interviewer when they would like to have this position filled.
